Whenever I mention to people that I'm a photographer, they ask me what kind of photos I take. I always struggle to answer this question. I'm not really a portrait photographer, travel photographer, or landscape photographer. I'm somewhat a mixture of all 3.
I received a Nikon D5600 after my senior year of high school. I messed around with it for a year before I packed it away and moved to the UK. Two years later, I returned home and resumed my studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. That fall of 2021, I met a group of friends who invited me on a trip to Moab. The trip to Moab turned into a trip to Zion NP, which turned into a trip to the Grand Canyon. On the Zion trip, I dusted off my camera and brought it along. I snapped some photos (all pretty bad), which I mostly kept to myself. Thankfully, I brought it on the Grand Canyon Trip.
After a grueling hike down into the canyon, we returned to the trailhead as the sunset. We rushed to a west-facing viewpoint right as the sun was hitting the horizon. We snapped some pictures and then returned to our campsite.
After returning to Provo, I excitedly ejected my SD card and slammed it into my computer. It was those photos that I edited that night that sparked my passion for photography. I've since traveled across the States and overseas with my friends. Last summer, I bought a Sony A7Riii and moved to Taiwan. Most recently, I finally retired my old Instagram account (@nates_nikon) and rebranded to @natehatchphoto.
I'm thankful for all of the adventures I've had and the people I've met. Thanks for following along on the adventure, and hope you'll either join or start your own.
I have too many hobbies: photography, travel, singing, philosophy, piano, Chinese, skiing, finance, reading... the list goes on. This new website, while hopefully professional, is a hodgepodge of my life. This page will mainly include (currently and in the future):
I'm hoping to connect with you and take the "less traveled" roads together.
